I.          Introductory  Concept

 

One of the secrets of a good nail care service is the use of good quality, safe and clean nail care tools and equipment. It would be so much easier to work with nails if you are familiar with the necessary tools and how to use them properly. In this lesson we will identify the different nail care tools and equipment, their uses, how to use them and how to take care of them.

Client Record

It is used to record clients personal and health information.

Nail Care Service Menu

It is a list of the services your Salon offers. It may also include pictures of the services, their descriptions, and prices.

Nail Shape Chart

It is a chart that illustrates the different shapes of the nail. It is used to help the client choose the best nail shape for him/her.

Nail Art Design

It is a chart of different nail art design. It is used to help the client choose a nail art design.

Nail Polish Color Chart

It is a chart of different nail polish color. It is used to help the client choose a nail polish color.

Nail Polish Brand Chart

It is a chart of different nail polish brands. It is used to help the client choose a nail polish brand.

Client Consultation Form

A form used to record the information gathered from the client on his nail conditions and his requested nail care service.

A table used for manicure service.

A chair used by the client/ patron.

A chair used by the manicurist during the nail care service.

A machine used during foot spa service. It is where the feet are soaked.

A basin where you put the water for rinsing the client’s feet.

It is used to rinse the client’s feet.

It is by the client during the foot spa service.

Disinfectant

It is a solution used to disinfect the clients’ feet.

Foot soak

A foot spa supply added to the water where the clients’ feet is soaked.

Foot scrub

A foot spa supply used to scrub the client’s feet.

Wooden Foot File

A foot spa tool used to scrub the client’s dry skin and calluses.

Foot soap

A foot spa supply used to wash the client’s feet.

Foot towels (Colored)

A foot spa supply used to dry the client’s feet.

A foot spa supply used to tint the client’s feet.

Foot lotion

A foot spa supply used during foot massage.

Paraffin wax

A wax dissolved in the paraffin wax machine and used to remove dead skin from the client’s hands.

Paraffin Wax Machine

A machine used to heat and dissolve the paraffin wax.

Hand Cream or lotion

A supply used for hand massage.

Mittens

It is used to cover the hands after coating with wax and plastic.

Hand Towel

It is used to dry up the client’s hand.

Plastic Cover

Plastic used to cover the hands after coating with wax during paraffin wax treatment.

Apron

A personal Protective equipment used by the nail technician to protect himself from liquids and chemicals.

Mask

A personal protective equipment used by the nail technician to protect himself and others from air borne diseases and dust.

Hair Net

A personal protective equipment used by the nail technician for a tidy hair.

Towels

 

Sanitizer

A solution used by the nail technician to sanitize his hands and the client’s hands.

Massage Oil

An oil used to massage the client’s hand/ feet.

Lukewarm water

The water added to the water in the basin in the absence of foot spa machine.

Plastic container for used bottles.

It is used to collect recyclable wastes.

Plastic containers for used cottons

Masking tape

It is used to collect biodegradable wastes.

 

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND SANITATION PROCEDURES

 

Safety precautions to be observed in giving nail services

1. Keep all containers covered and labeled.

2. Hold or move containers with dry hands.

3. Handle sharp-pointed implements carefully and avoid dropping them.

4. Dull over sharpened cutting edges of sharp implements with an emery board.

5. Bevel a sharp nail edge with an emery board.

6. Do not file too deeply into nail corners.

7. Do not use a sharp, pointed implement to cleanse under the nail.

8. Apply an antiseptic immediately if the skin is accidentally cut.

9. Avoid pushing the cuticle back too far.

10. Do not work on a nail when the surrounding skin is inflamed or is infected.

 

Sanitary rules to be observed in giving nail services

1. Manicuring implements must be cleaned and disinfected after each use.

2. Place used materials (tissues, cotton, emery board, etc.) into closed containers or plastic bag attached to manicuring table.

3. Wipe manicuring table with disinfectant; put everything in order.

4. Clean the tops of nail polish bottles with polish remover.

5. Inspect the manicuring table drawer for cleanliness and order.

6. Wash and dry your hands.

 

 

Tips and Warnings

Always follow the safety precautions and sanitary rules at all times to prevent the spread of contagious and infectious diseases which can also be acquired by using unclean implements.

 

Maintain Good Hygiene

To maintain hygiene not only personally but through your equipment, you should follow the following steps:

·        *Make sure that all tools and equipment are clean and sterile before use.

·        *All client work areas, like nail tables and foot rests, should be kept clean at all times. Dust and debris build-up of nail pieces or nail dust should not be present.

·        *Make sure that you follow hygienic working practices.

·       * You should maintain a high standard of personal hygiene.
